Abstract In this issue of Arthritis and Rheumatology Hanly et al. and the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC) report that 1.5% of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) experience an episode of psychosis within three years of diagnosis. Psychosis occurs early and is transient. Patients usually fully recover. They rarely relapse. In presenting this information, the paper shifts no paradigms about central nervous system (CNS) SLE, but it does provide answers to some common questions, and it offers lessons about clinical research that transcend the paper's face message.
